The first thing we consider with onsite deliveries is safety. We need flat, level access. We cannot tip on site that slopes. What obstructions need to be considered when you are having soil delivery? We are also constantly on the lookout for overhead obstructions. You’ve got to look up. Are there low power lines, trees, that sort of thing. What happens if it is difficult to decide on a good space for soil delivery? I don’t think I’ve ever been to a property that didn’t have at least one good spot to tip off. If you’re not sure, you can just ask. If you have any concerns you can always take a photo and email or text it to us. Sometimes I ask people to text me a photo of where they want the material and I can confirm whether the site will work. This type of checking doesn’t take any time and it will help you to feel confident that it will all go according to plan. Are there any issues with site damage from soil delivery that need to be considered? People often ask me whether a delivery will damage their property or will it stain in their driveway. Usually there are no worries. There’s a few products that I wouldn’t recommend; there’s a few surfaces that I would definitely stay off. For example you would tip anything on liquid limestone; it’s just too porous. You’d be cleaning it for weeks. If you are worried about something specific please let us know and we can think together about how to ensure everything goes well. Sometimes people use a tarpaulin when they are getting soil delivered. Is this a good idea? If people ask, I recommend that you put out a tarp down. I love it when people put out a tarp, especially if your delivery is pre-booked and pre-ordered, then you can’t get it wrong. Just put the tarp where you want the material, weight it down, and we’ll tip on the tarp. That’s a great smart way to do it. How big should the tarp be? Bigger than you think. If people are going to ask how much space will the load take up, say leave 4mx4m, and you’ll be safe for any size load. Obviously if it’s a small load, it’ll take up a smaller space, but just to make it simple, 4mx4m. Do I need to be home when the soil gets dropped off? You don’t have to be home for the delivery. We’ll tip on to the tarp you’ve put out or in the place you’ve sent a photo or delivery instructions. We have a contact number so we’ll call if we have any questions. What is the best tip point for bulk soil delivery? 90% of the tip will usually go on the verge or on your driveway. If you’ve got a single driveway, it’s going to block your driveway. That’s important. We don’t ever tip on the road or on your neighbour’s property? It has to be delivered to a property owned by the person who signed the terms and conditions. What is the best sand base for paving? Paving Areas For Foot Traffic Only – Plaster Sand If the area that you’re paving is for foot traffic and your Pavers are 50 mil thick or thinner, use plaster or sand because it doesn’t compact as hard. There is an issue with the thinner format pavers that when you compact over the top to bed they are less likely to chip and crack if they are over softer material. Use plaster or sand in that application. Paving Areas With Vehicle Traffic – Brickie Sand If the area that you’re paving is for vehicle traffic you’re using thick Pavers, 50 mils or thicker, you’d want to use Brickies Sand. This is because it has a higher ply of content. It compacts harder and makes for a stronger base when weight bearing is a requirement.
